What Does Wild Rice Mean to the Ojibwe People?

Myron Burns,a seventy one year old elder from the Bad River Ojibwe reserve in northern Wisconsin has been gathering rice more than sixty years. Burns talks about the importance of rice to the Ojibwe and how to insure its survival.

@SPS148669 wow do you have a lot to learn about wild rice, its actually a seed from the plant (which is native to the americas) its not the same as white rice. It grows naturally since way before our time and our grandparents time and their grandparents.

Actually, wild rice is a separate taxonomic group from “true rice,” but they’re closely related. Three of the four wild rice species are native to North America.

You have rice because it was imported from Asia 100 years ago,The Asians also imported and now grow Corn which was Native American’s staple crop.

Rice is ASIAN food not Native American, Corn IS Native American, You should be growing corn instead. Let the E.T looking Japs grow rice.
