Description:

During the course of the night TS Paula was upgraded to a category 1 hurricane. As of 5:00 a.m. this 12/10/10) the tropical cyclone was located some 198 miles WNW of Belize City, with sustained winds of 75 mph. The system continues on its North westerly track at 10 mph. Tropical storm winds extend some 40 to 50 miles out from the centre of circulation. The storm will be at its nearest point to Belize's coast between 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. tonight. Less than 2 inches of rainfall is predicted for the north of the country which is expected to sustain the greatest effects of the system. The pre-existing cold front persists and continues to push the storm off the Belizean coast. As of briefing time the storm posed no significant threat to the country at this time.
