Great how you used tools and fan, and breakdown at the end. Up till now I was wondering if you only got to burn a few lite bulbs for your investment of couple hundred $

Is there a battery unit that can store power so the power you collect during the day can be used at night?

I bought 6×6 Multi-Cryatalline solar cells that are supposed to be 4 watts, .5 volts and 8 amps. But when I measure the amps using multimeter the highest I ever get for amps is 3.5, even when sun is highest in the sky. Is this normal to get only half amps when measuring solar cells with meter or are these no good and I should return them? Anyone know?

1:34. Was that OW or wow? Sure sounded like ow. Don’t lose a digit!

How many amps to run an average house? Lets a family of 4. I would love to be energy independent, but at what cost? It may be better for the environment, but most of us can’t afford solar.

Thanks Dan, I have veiwed dozens of videos on the subject and yours is by far the most informative. In the few minutes that it took to watch yours, I feel more confident in these projects than all other videos combined. Keep up the great work bro!

Has the power that those panels output decreased since you got them? I heard that the panels produced by topray solar decrease power over time and sometimes fail.

Using hollow fan blades filled with refrigerant, you could use a thermostat between the lights and the fan motor to create innovative AC.

If you want to invest in an energy source that will only get much, much better as the years pass, I’d recommend solar cells. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t buy some right now, the ones we have will save you tonnes of money by being grid-independent. Photovoltaic material research is a very busy field with a lot of promising work going on to make very cheap and highly efficient solar cells, you’ll be supporting all that by going solar yourself.

Awesome! Very good starter video for beginners. Just subscribed and I’m checking out your other stuff now
BTW, I think you can get brand name ~230W panels for about $500 now.. and I think you said your system here was 45W for $230? Granted this video was made 2.5 years ago.. just pointing out to new viewers that prices have dropped significantly lately, AND there are HUGE government rebate programs going on. Definitely a good time to go solar!

Great video. can you suggest an inverter and store to buy the system you have?
I have a cabin in the mountain without electricity and All I need is 4 light bulbs, a tv set and mp3 player. How many watt I need and for how long the system will be able to keep the light on?
Thanks
