SOLAR ACTIVITY UPDATE: Magnetic Reverberation/30% Chance for X-Class Flares(Sep 29th, 2011).

By

REVERBERATIONS: A CME hit Earth’s magnetic field on Sept. 26th, sparking one of the strongest magnetic storms in years. At the peak of the Kp=8 disturbance, auroras were sighted around both poles and more than half a dozen US states. Magnetic reverberations continued for more than 48 hours. Here is the view from forests of Skibotn, Norway, two days after the CME impact:

New information…just heard on the radio a few seconds ago at approx 22:17 PST (9/30/2011) a comet has appeared on SOHO sats and is expected to hit the sun in approx 12 hours…(approx 10:17AM on Oct 1, 2011) should be interesting if they let us see it.

The significance is comets hitting the sun tend to cause CMEs, though NASA denies this to be true and typically cuts off the feeds so that we can not see what they see…FYI.

It is a persistant little bugger.

@Zeden2010 Thanks!

@Popflyer123 Yes, they rotate the sun’s images to bring its magnetic north up in relation to Earth’s.
