During a Solar Maximum, the magnetic field lines are most distorted with increased sunspot activity and solar flares. These Solar cycles occur in 11 years. The next Solar Maximum is scheduled towards the end of 2012, during which massive solar flares are expected. These solar flares produce geomagnetic storms in the earth’s atmosphere and can disrupt the satellites. If stronger, they can also affect our power grids. The solar flares scheduled in 2012 are believed to be strong enough to destroy all our satellites. Out scientists are standing by to switch off the satellites just before the solar flares reach the earth. If all the satellites are destroyed, it will lead to a chain of events. It beings with worldwide communication failure. Most television networks will fail. With the absence of satellites, any international transaction would be impossible. No international transaction would be impossible. No international banking transaction would be possible; this has the potential to trigger a financial and economic collapse.
