Lenz 2 Wind Turbine Into Grid Tie Inverter With Ni Cad Battery Connected
By
Trying a Grid Tie inverter with the wind turbines. There are 2 turbines one on the roof and the one on the dock, but most of the charging is coming from the dock turbine right now. I have a batttery connected in parallel going to the GTI to hopefully keep any large voltage spikes from burning out the inverter. Shouldn’t really be a problem as long as the turbines are under load. The grid tie is for solar , they do make them for wind now also but they are more expensive. I got two of these for $165.00 , Just one for wind is $242. , but I think that was a 500 watt. not a 250 watt. I added in a relay to kickout if voltage gets to high so now I’m running it without a battery hooked in. I do have it so I can add it back in if needed.

@Fearlessthinker so far so good but we haven’t really had any high winds lately. I have it disconnected now and have a reset relay in the positive cable coming to the inverter DC.

How’d that buffer battery working out?

@wiboater4 Yes this is true usually when the sun isn’t shining the wind is blowing though.

Great Job. Please see my vids. I have a great control box system for hooking up the turbines to grid tie inverter. Might beable to help your system.

@shartne The trouble is the wiind isn’t usually that strong and doesn’t blow all day long. I’m finding the solar panels more productive. That being said I still think the wind turbine can be improved upon. I’ll take whatever extra it gives me.

you should make a half a dozen more of those to put along the shore line.

Glad to see its working out.Nice readings.TAKE CARE

That 12 mph is decieving, that anemometer is by the turbine on the roof so the trees block some of the wind even without leaves. Later on I got up to 130 watts. I’m going to say that when it was hitting 100 watts it was probably closer to a 20 mph wind at the dock.

You likely have some watts also going into the battery. That’s some pretty good watt production into the grid for 12mph I think.
