Leilani Munter Visits the Largest Wind Farm in the World and Climbs a Turbine
By
Stephen Colbert may have a falcon, a sea turtle, an elephant seal, a spider and an ice cream named after him but race car driver and environmental activist Leilani Münter has beat him to the punch in the world of alternative energy. Among 432 wind turbines in the largest wind farm in the world, NextEra Energy’s wind turbine #133 outside of Abilene, Texas bears the mark of Carbon Free Girl Leilani Münter. After climbing 252 feet to the hub of the turbine, Leilani was incredibly honored to sign one of the giant blades – which is the length of a basketball court – and make it her own.

Is that hard hat really gonna protect her skull if one of the blades falls off and hit’s her?
Wind turbines may reduce Man’s “carbon footprint” but they greatly expand our physical footprint by industrializing formerly scenic landscapes. They disrupt far more acreage than a conventional (or nuclear) power plant would for the same energy output. You also have to include their access roads and concrete pads in the equation.
Those who refuse to see the downsides of wind turbines cannot honestly call themselves environmentalists. See sites like Wind-Watch and WindAction for more info.
ya wind boo corporate will now charge you double 4 free energy ~~~ wind an solar can be maintained by a very small fraction of are taxes but the greedy corporate junk-keys wouldn’t like that cause thy wouldn’t have no more slaves we would be able 2 controlle the way are money flows an not corporate 4 a change an im shore if we did we would have an Eco friendly world cause thats were the money would go
Just one of the Wind Farms that I helped to develop. It is located in Texas and it is the largest wind project in the world! Everything’s big in Texas!
Leilani is a biology graduate so she is quite aware of the nature of CO2. This video supports renewable energy. We are dumping 90 million tons of CO2 into the air every day. CO2 has a heat trapping effect on the atmosphere – we’ve known that for 150 yrs. It’s a well accepted scientific fact like, oh say, gravity. What do you think happens when we put 90 million tons up there every day? Is there some magic wand we can wave and presto!—physics is overturned & CO2 doesn’t trap heat anymore?
“carbon free girl”. Ummm … you need to stop breathing to be carbon free young lady.
Every time you spoke you were emitting a “harmful” gas (according to the EPA) called CO2.
I own an EV company, but I’m not a tree hugger.
I’m all for protecting our environment and being responsible with our resources, but there are some really whacky folks out there that take this over the edge.
What a cutie. This may be out of the ordinary, but I actually find wind turbines beautiful when seen on the horizon.
Wind Turbines? OK It’s better than coal, oil or nuclear but it creates “Horizon Pollution” and it also is not the end solution to the so-called energy problem.
EBM = energy by motion, look for ‘gammamanager(dot)com’
22fret – If you would read a little about Leilani I think you would see she dedicates much of her life to raising awareness about the environment. She has a degree in biology, is an Ambassador for the National Wildlife Federation, & makes regular trips to Washington DC to talk to Congress about environmental legislation. She also adopts and protects an acre of rainforest for every race she runs to offset her carbon footprint & sets a good example for the 100 million race fans in the USA.
Strange, those americans. Driving huge, gas-guzzling SUVs, racecars (like she does) but being vegetarians and finding it patriotic (?!) to support renewable energy. It takes a certain amount of creativity to combine all those antagonisms. But as long as it’s patriotic…
i love leilani shes an awesome woman
Very cool! I’ll forgive you for being a racecar driver because youre a vegetarian hippie chick! (ha ha) Keep up the great work.
