@soccom8341576 Because oil is denominated by the dollar the rest of the world subsidizes the U.S. economy. Other countries must hold dollars to buy oil. To get dollars they must exchange goods & services with the U.S. which only has to print it up. Consequently, there are so many dollars floating around in the global economy it’s impossible to hold sufficient gold reserves to back up all those dollars.

Indeed it does. Oil affects so many aspects of our lives it does determine the prices of many goods and the health of an economy.

All fiat money is commodified by oil. Oil is a defacto standard of value for all currencies. GDP is an index of the oil economy from which the value of fiat currency is derived. Simply going back to a gold or silver standard would not remove currency commodification by oil, especially the dollar, which is used to denominate the price & value of oil. If oil was chocolate & currency a box of chocolates, gold & silver would merely replace the paper wrappers.
