Description:

A hailstorm struck Fujairah on Saturday causing the residents to spend their weekend and season holidays holed up indoors. A representative from the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said the occurrence was predicted by forecasters earlier and is a result of a weather change that the country is currently undergoing. According to a report released by NCMS, unstable weather will continue until Monday and a further drop in temperature is expected. Several areas in the country, namely Western Region will be affected by
the change. Residents in Al Safran, located in Liwa (Western Region), had their visibility drastically cut down on Saturday by fog when rates reached about 1,600 metres around 4.15am and cleared by 9.45am. Ras Al Khaimah, Al Ain and its surrounding areas also saw hazy conditions where distance in sight was reduced by 800 metres and 100 metres, respectively. Forecasters explained that this is being caused by east winds travelling inward from the Mediterranean Sea towards the Arabian Gulf accompanied by a low surface pressure. Today and Monday is expected to be pleasant with partly cloudy weather bringing in chances of scattered rain and thunder over Northern and coastal areas. Fresh wind blowing over the sea and open land areas may kick up dust at times over western areas but will settle down by evening. Authorities warned the motorists to drive safely and asked the beach-goers to take special care during the period.
