Description:
Heavy rain and flooding in southcentral provinces from Phu Yen to Binh Thuan have killed eight people and left six others missing. The floodwater also pulled down over 600 houses, submerged 6,100 houses, and damaged nearly 18,000ha of subsidiary crops, according to the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention. Due to the impact of torrential rains and floods, the electric sector has cut off electricity in many flood-hit parts of Dong Xuan and Dong Hoa districts. Floodwater has receded on National Highways 1A and 27 while some parts of National Highway 26 remain 0.1-0.3m under water. In Phu Yen, traffic was held up on some provincial roads such as 6412, 642, 646, and 647. In Khanh Hoa province, landslides occurred in three places, disrupting traffic on Khanh Le- Lam Dong route. A government delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has arrived in Ninh Thuan to help local people cope with floods and heavy rain. The National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has predicted that the water levels in the rivers from Thua Thien-Hue to Phu Yen would continue to rise.
