Description:
At least nine people have died in floods in several built-up areas in the Tuapse district of Krasnodar Region, in the south of Russia. The disaster has been prompted by downpour that caused local mountain rivers to burst their banks. Some 300 homes with over 1,500 people in them have been flooded. Rescue workers have evacuated about 300 people. An emergency situation has been declared in the disaster area. President Dmitry Medvedev has instructed the Regional Development Ministry and the Krasnodar Region authorities to estimate the damage done, and provide support for those affected.
