I’ve lived amongst several Cree people near James Bay whom still use their estigan for homes, carry their babies in tikinagans (cradleboards), and keep theior families fed on the moose, fish and grouse that they harvest.

you are correct for the majority of Americans, and natives living in the states and southern Canada.

However, many Cree, Innu and Dene people still live off of the land, prefering canvas tents and dog sleds, over the modern synthetics tents and snowmobiles (which can break down and not be easily repaired or refuelled by these people).

courses like this in the UK are way too expensive

Native Americans or real Americans do not live in the wild with only bushcraft to survive. They now live in houses, with Samsung plasma TVs and powerful microwave ovens.
