BNN: Making Wind Energy Green

By

This Bird News Network (BNN) video by American Bird Conservancy (www.abcbirds.org) discusses the impact to birds from wind turbines and the need to properly site where wind farms are located, and some effective mitigation measures that can be taken to reduce bird mortality http

The birds shouldn’t fly after drinking alchohol.

@shorty962
20-35 thousand from OLD fast rotating California models compared to:

1,000,000,000 annually from hitting windows.

3

You mean non-significant impact compared to hitting windows

Yeah… 1 000 000 000 birds die each year HITTING glass. Do we take down Skyscrapers and boycut creating more windows?

Oh an by the way most bird death are caused by OLD models fast rotating models that are being replaced.

Tell me how many birds die from hitting windows compaired to how many die from hitting turbines annually.

Wind turbine companies must make sure to avoid placing wind farms in the migratory path of birds. Transformer company, Pacific Crest Transformers has more on this. It offers custom built energy transformers for the wind energy sector. It offers Grounding transformers with harsh duty requirements, Wind Turbine Step-Up Transformers, Collector Step-Up Transformers, and Dynamic VAR Compensation Systems Transformers, for the wind energy industry.

Hi,

No, we are saying wind energy can be done in a way that minimizes impacts to birds. We agree on the need for implementing alternative energy solutions such as wind and solar to stem global warming.

Hello.

I’m a bit confused. I thought that you were saying wind energy is bad because it kills birds… Was I mistaken? If I was, please correct me. I agree that humans shouldn’t kill other species when not necessary. But wind energy is helpful to us by cutting down our dependency on non-renewable resources, so in that case it is necessary.

Hi Mvlty,

Of course humans are part of nature, but the key difference in this case is that we are hopefully smart enough to avoid unnecessary harm to other species. Why not do wind energy right from the start and avoid the needless killing of millions of birds over the next century as this industry is developed?

Have you ever thought that humans are part of nature too? We aren’t any different than other species that harm another’s environment. Other species relocate due to predators or a more agressive species that steals all it’s food. Aren’t we animals too? Don’t we have a right to fill some of our needs even though it means we must harm another? Other species are allowed to do it. It’s called nature…natural selection…You can’t always have mutualism or the world wouldn’t work right!
